Dr. Jackie Bracken is an award-winning dentist and orthodontist with more than 15 years of teeth-straightening experience. She completed a Clinical Doctorate in Orthodontics and is a registered specialist with the Irish Dental Council.

Professional experience

Jackie qualified as a dentist from Trinity College Dublin (Hons) in 2005. Two years later, she set up Callan Dental in her home county of Kilkenny, which is now a leading centre of excellence in the South East.

After developing a passion for straightening teeth, Jackie completed her specialist training in orthodontics. This involved three years of full-time study and hands-on experience.

She was awarded her Clinical Doctorate in Orthodontics from the University College Cork (Hons) and Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh.

Dedicated to improvement

Jackie is dedicated to improving her knowledge and her patients’ care. Her postgraduate qualifications include Advanced Aesthetic Dentistry and Pain Management and Sedation from the world-renowned Eastman Dental Institute.

Jackie is a member of the Irish Orthodontic Society, European Orthodontic Society and the American Orthodontic Society, giving her access to valuable resources from colleagues around the world.

Q&A with Jackie

What made your choose a career in dentistry?
I wanted to pursue a career that involved helping people. I enjoy being part of the local community, and I’ve met some wonderful patients and colleagues. Working in dentistry, I’m always learning something new and every day is exciting.
Why did you decide to focus on orthodontics?
After qualifying as a dentist, I worked closely with orthodontists during my postgraduate training. It was rewarding to see the positive impact that braces can have on patients. It’s very fulfilling to detect the onset of a dental irregularity and take corrective action to provide patients with a beautiful smile.
What has been the highlight of your career?
Setting up my first dental practice in Callan, Co. Kilkenny. It allowed me to deliver a fantastic standard of care and treatment, which saw us win numerous awards. Completing my specialist training in orthodontics was also an incredible experience.
What surprises people the most about orthodontics?
Many people associate orthodontics with children and teenagers. Adults can be pleasantly surprised to hear that we have a range of discreet braces to transform smiles. They’re also excited when they realise how far orthodontics has come. We use the latest technology, including 3D scanners and printers, to increase accuracy and reduce treatment times.
What’s your advice to someone considering braces?
The ideal age for a consultation is between 8 and 10 for girls and 9 and 12 for boys. This gives us the full range of treatment options available.
