There’s no age limit for orthodontic treatment. So, whether you’re 8 or 80, we’d love to help you transform your smile.
Who can benefit from orthodontic treatment?
If you have crooked, crowded or misaligned teeth or jaws, braces are a fantastic solution. Most people who visit us for a face-to-face consultation are suitable for orthodontic treatment.
Before we can fit your braces, we’ll need to make sure your teeth and gums are healthy and free from decay and gum disease.
If you have fillings or restorations such as crowns, veneers or implants, we can usually plan your treatment around them.
Can you wear braces more than once?
If you’re visiting us as an adult, you may have already had some orthodontic treatment in the past.
Unfortunately, not everyone receives the best aftercare advice – or even retainers – so your results may not have stood the test of time.
Thankfully, there’s nothing to stop you from wearing braces again. And this time, we’ll help you to maintain your new smile with retainers and aftercare included as standard.
How discreet are adult braces?
Whatever your age, you can choose from our full range of braces. Dr. Jackie Bracken is a specialist orthodontist and an experienced provider of metal and clear fixed braces and Invisalign aligners.
During your initial consultation, we’ll explore all your treatment options. Invisalign is a popular pick for adults that uses clear, removable aligners to straighten your teeth. The aligners are almost invisible, and you can conveniently remove them to eat and brush your teeth.
At the end of your treatment, we’ll give your clear, custom-made retainers to secure your smile. You can also opt for fixed retainers, which consist of a metal wire that fits discreetly behind your front teeth.
How often will you need to come and see us?
During your treatment, we’ll see you for regular check-ups to review your progress and make any necessary adjustments. How often you’ll need to visit us will depend on which brace you choose.
If you have fixed braces, we’ll see you every eight weeks. If you choose Invisalign, you’ll only need to visit the practice every 15 weeks.
We’ll keep a close eye on your smile between appointments using our DentalMonitoring app. You can take regular photos of your teeth and send them to us securely via the app.
If we have any concerns, we can send you feedback through the app or arrange a catch-up at the practice. This is all included at no extra cost.
Are there disadvantages to adult braces?
We’ve achieved some incredible results for our more mature patients, many of whom combine their braces with professional home teeth whitening to elevate their results.
It’s never too late to straighten your smile, and adult teeth typically move just as efficiently as our younger patients’.
The key thing we can’t do is improve your bite using functional appliances. Your jaws need to be growing for these to work.
Luckily, there are other ways we can adjust your bite, including braces or aligners combined with elastics. If you have a more severe bite discrepancy, we can discuss jaw surgery.
