Our specialist orthodontist Dr. Jackie Bracken is an Invisalign Diamond Apex provider and one of Ireland’s most experienced Invisalign orthodontists. So, who better to answer your most frequently asked questions about our favourite clear aligners.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a discreet way to straighten teeth. It’s a fantastic alternative to fixed braces that moves your teeth using crystal-clear removable aligners.

How does Invisalign work?

Each aligner is custom-made to gently applying pressure to your teeth at the optimal time. Before we start your treatment, we’ll create a 3D treatment plan to show you how each aligner will improve your smile.

How often will I need to wear my aligners?

It’s essential to wear your aligners full time – for at least 20 hours a day. If you don’t wear them for long enough, your teeth may not move, and you could delay your treatment.

How discreet is Invisalign?

Invisalign is very discreet – there are no metal components, and most people won’t know you’re wearing braces.

Who can benefit from Invisalign treatment?

If you’re a good candidate for braces (most people are), it’s very likely that you’ll be suitable for Invisalign, too. We’ve treated children, teens and adults using Invisalign aligners and corrected many different concerns, from simple crowding to severe misalignments.

Is there an age limit for Invisalign?

There’s no upper age limit for braces or Invisalign, so it’s never too late to visit us for a no-obligation consultation.

Can Invisalign improve my bite?

Yes, just like fixed braces, Invisalign can straighten your teeth and adjust your bite. Common bite problems that Invisalign can treat include overbites, underbites, open bites and crossbites.

Can I wear Invisalign if I’ve already had braces?

Yes, if your teeth have relapsed after orthodontic treatment, we can discreetly straighten them again with Invisalign. It’s a popular choice for adults who wore fixed braces in their teens.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

Our average treatment time is 12–18 months, but every patient is unique. During your consultation, we’ll be able to give you an accurate timeframe for your treatment.

Is Invisalign faster than fixed braces?

Invisalign isn’t consistently quicker (or slower) than fixed braces – although some cases can be completed in less time using clear aligners.

How often will I need to visit the practice?

You’ll only need to visit us every 15 weeks. We’ll keep in touch between appointments using our DentalMonitoring app. You can send us regular photos of your teeth and we’ll give you personalised feedback via the app.

Does Invisalign treatment hurt?

Your Invisalign treatment shouldn’t be painful, but you might experience some mild soreness while you adjust to wearing aligners. You may find that your aligners rub the inside of your mouth, and your teeth could ache as they start to move. We’ll give you advice on how to manage any discomfort.

Will Invisalign aligners give me a lisp?

Some of our patients develop a slight lisp when they first start wearing aligners. If you keep talking, it will quickly improve.

What are Invisalign attachments?

Invisalign attachments are small shapes of composite that we attach to certain teeth during your treatment. Your aligners use these attachments as handles to achieve more complicated movements and speed up your treatment. Invisalign attachments are tooth-coloured, so they’re very discreet.

Will I need IPR?

We sometimes carry out Interproximal reduction (IPR) to create extra space and reduce the appearance of black triangles. IPR involves carefully removing tiny amounts of enamel from between your teeth. It’s quick, painless and won’t affect the long-term health of your teeth.

What happens if I lose an aligner?

If you lose an aligner, switch back to your previous one and contact us for advice. You might be ready to start wearing the next one in the sequence, or we may need to organise a replacement.

How much does Invisalign treatment cost?

Invisalign costs €4,950, and our monthly finance options start from €240 per month. Our fixed prices for Invisalign include specialist-led treatment, unlimited appointments, the latest digital technology, removable retainers and 12 months of aftercare.

Is Invisalign more expensive than fixed braces?

No, we charge the same fixed price for both Invisalign and fixed braces.
